2011 APDA Tournament

Friday, January 21, 2011 to Saturday, January 22, 2011

The Brooks Quimby Debate Council of Bates College invites you to our annual debate tournament on the 21st and 22nd of January 2010

Theme

The Brooks Quimby Debate Council is pleased to announce that our theme this year is APDAleaks. In the spirit of our theme, we encourage “security leaks” in the form of loose-link resolution ideas. We will be accepting submissions at batescollegedebate@gmail.com.

Rounds

There will be 5 preliminary rounds -- 3 on Friday and 2 on Saturday -- followed by breaks into the finals for novice teams and quarter-finals for varsity teams.

Judging

The judging director for our tournament will be Colin Etnire. We are working on securing the services of a deep and capable pool of dinos for the tournament. There will be a judging requirement of (n-1)/2 rounded up for each school. A fee of $40 will be charged for every missing judge. This WILL be enforced.

Tab

Tab will be run by Ian Mahmud, assisted by a team of high capable individuals. The Bates tournament has had a long reputation of running one of the most efficient tabs on the circuit and we intend to meet and exceed this reputation. In the spirit of our theme, our tournament will be run with an open tab for rounds 1-3. Tab will post the results of the first three round results in GA. Breaks will consist of quarter finals for varsity and a final round for novices. The full tab policy will be posted shortly.

Food

We will provide three meals for the duration of this tournament: dinner on Friday evening as well as breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Lunch will be a banquet with catering from one of the finest dining establishments in Lewiston. Please inform us regarding any dietary constraints you may have.

Equity

The Equity Officer for the tournament will be Andy Kageliery. He will take it upon himself to ensure that any equity concerns you may have will be addressed in a serious and deliberate manner. Equity policy to follow.

Housing

Housing will be provided for all teams. Please contact us if you have any special considerations.

Entertainment

No visit to the great expanses of the North will be complete without ample opportunities for socializing and fun. Fear not, there will be copious amounts of recreational beverages to keep everyone more than warm.

Registration

Note: Our tournament is Pay to Play.

Registration Fees are $100 per team, $50 from teams south of NYC. There’s a $10 registration break per team if you pay in cash. We will waive the registration fee for any teams flying to our tournament. Please note that we will arrange airport pick-ups for teams that fly into the Portland airport. A late fee will be charged to the amount of $10 per team per month in the event of late payment. If you have difficulty meeting this registration fee, please contact us. We do not want finances to hinder the attendance of any team. Also, schools that arrange for the attendance of dinos as judges will qualify for significant reg breaks. If dinos do not travel with the school, we will be willing to subsidize part of their travel costs.

The official registration form is the only method of registration. Please direct any additional questions or concerns to batescollegedebate@gmail.com. Pre-registration is due at 11:59pm on Tuesday, January the 18th 2010.
